A few weeks ago, I was honored to be named one of San Antonio’s Most Inspiring Women. We were celebrated by a wonderful dinner and ceremony where we each got up and gave a little speech about ourselves.
I kept mine short and sweet as I said the first thing that popped into my mind.
“I am an example of what happens when you let God be in control of your life.”
You see, I have led an extraordinary life filled with most things that I had not planned. I just went with it. I tried when I was younger to plan out my life and God laughed. My dear child, I have so much more in store for you than you can ever imagine.
Love. Career. Health. You name it…it is not what I had set out to be like when I was younger. It’s way freakin better! God had a plan for me and I listened. Imagine if I had not.
If I could give one piece of advice to young people, it is this: It is great to have your life planned out for yourself and how you want to live. It is much better to be flexible with them and to keep your ears and heart open to what God wants for you. Trust me, He knows much better than you ever will. Never get so busy planning your life that you forget to live it. Be open. Be grateful. Acknowledge that it is God who gives you the ability to do what you do.
It is that simple.
