A few days ago, I came home from work much later than I wanted to because of a myriad of time blockers. I had to catch up after being in meetings all day and then on my way home I ran into traffic, accidents etc. A normal 20 minute drive turned into a 45 minute commute after an already very long and tiring day. I have to admit, I was tired and maybe a little pissy with my attitude. Ok, a LOT pissy.
When I got home, my hubs was nowhere to be found. I called him and he was still working, but would be home soon. He had started his day at 6am out the door and it was now a little past 7pm. Long day. Much longer than mine.
I started to make dinner. Now, mind you, I am still a little perturbed in my mind, because I “got stuck” making dinner and I didn’t feel like it.
I found myself chopping up tomatoes…aggressively. I actually got mad at Michael for not being there to help me.
And then I had one of my God smacking Jennifer on the side of the head moments. Jennifer!! How blessed are you?
You have a husband that has an outstanding work ethic who loves you unconditionally.
You have food to cook.
I brought you home safely today.
I saw you with your clients and you were great.
I inspired you to help someone today and pray for them.
Look at this home that you have…your family…those precious dogs!
You are so blessed. These are the things that you need to focus on.
I noticed my tomato chopping became a little less assaultive. I got it. I felt like a bit of a ding dong for being so ungrateful and selfish.
A smile formed on my scowling face. My attitude went from displeasure to enjoyment of my task at hand. I get to cook for my hardworking husband.
Thanks God!
Michael came home a few moments later. Tired and sweaty from a long day or work. I gave him a giant hug and a kiss. I was happy that he was home.
Sometimes we need these little reminders. I needed it that day. We all do. I think back to how that night could have gone if he came home to a crabby and annoyed Jen. That wouldn’t have been good. It would have been very selfish of me. I am glad that I keep my heart open to listen to God when He speaks.
He’s a lot smarter than me 🙂
