About a year ago, I wrote the following words into my Jesus Calling Devotional: When you worry, you think about the past and the future. Live in the present moment now!
It was a perfect reminder to me this morning, because my mind was wandering thinking about the disturbing news that I had just read a little before that. I mean, seriously, once you read the news today, your mind cannot help but want to spiral into a thousand “what-ifs” of crap scenarios.
Michael had just finished reading the devotional to me and I didn’t hear a dang thing he said except for the last part because I remember writing it last year. My mind was on the future. I was worrying.
Instead of enjoying the precious moment of love and fellowship that I should have been having with my hubs, I squandered it, on stuff that probably won’t ever happen. What a waste of our most precious resource – time.
When I caught myself, I stopped it. I was doing what the devil wants us to do. He planted that seed and I was watering it. So I stopped it. I let that sucka dry out and die right then and there.
I resolved to live in the present moment, listen to God’s word and give my full attention to my Michael. A calm came over me as he patiently re-read the devotional to me.
In His most perfect timing, the whole page of the reading was about being present with God.
