Take Your Work Email Off Your Phone

Fox-Guidry Mortgage > JoyfulLivingToday > Take Your Work Email Off Your Phone

In early 2020, I made the bold decision to take my work email off of my phone. That may sound insane to some of you, but I assure you that it is definitely one of the best things that I have ever done.
People might think I am crazy and that it would do me great harm, especially being in the industry I am in.  I assure you that it can be done and it will not effect your business…as long as you have the right business partners. When you set proper expectations, follow through and communicate, you don’t have to work every single hour you are awake.
Hear me out…
Most of us no longer have a line drawn between work and home life. Our phones are by our sides 24/7. We “finish” working, but we really never FINISH working. That’s because we have access to our work right there in front of us, even after work hours. This has got to stop!! What we are doing to ourselves is to NEVER have a boundary between our work and family time. When you are checking email and text messages from clients after hours, you are not only harming yourself, but you are harming your family as well. You are telling your family that they are not important enough to command your full attention. It’s selfish and I think it’s pretty mean to those you love (If we are being honest here).  Now, I have been there. I was there for many years…so I am not judging.  I am merely pointing out a truth. A truth that took me over 40 + years to learn. I am sharing it with you so perhaps it won’t take you as long to figure it all out.
The very assumption that a person in the mortgage or real estate industry (or ANY industry) has to be available 24/7 is something that we put on ourselves. It is NOT a rule…so it is up to you to not make it one.
Take back your life. Put your phone away when you are home. Take off the work email from your phone and I guarantee that you will be less stressed out and more present. You will learn to appreciate it and your loved ones will get the most precious commodity out of you…your time and presence.
