I have been journaling for many years now. It has become a part of my daily routine. Not only has it proven itself to be great therapy for me, the action has allowed me to record moments in time that I would have otherwise forgotten. A sunrise in Africa. When I first fell in love. Sad days. Happy days. I’ve gotten through them all. My journal helps me put things into perspective despite that not being my intention while writing.
Writing allows me to be fearless. Make mistakes. Be curious. Question things. Be myself completely. No masks or filters. It is my sacred space. My sanctuary.
No one else can judge me or question my sometimes off-the-wall thoughts that roll into my head. My complicated contemplations, my sentiments, my yearnings, my contritions, my agonies and my delights all dance on my pages as they flow from my mind. It doesn’t matter what they are, I honor myself by putting them into words.
Journaling is restorative, healing, calming and satisfying. With pen in hand, I can boldly declare the passions of my inner self – my higher self. When I am done, I feel at peace.
Writing beckons me to release the feelings I have. The words glide out of me sometimes and at other times they are stuck. When that happens, I pause and then just write without thinking. When I let it, creativity flows from me.
I understand better. I feel more. I am calmer. I know myself better. I don’t live or think by anyone else’s rules when I journal. I write with no restriction or forbidding fear that I will be judged. Man, that feels so good.
If those aren’t good reasons to journal, I don’t know what is 🙂 You should totally try it.
